Strengthening Snow Removal Response Capabilities by Introducing Mechanized Snow Removal on Sidewalks and Back Roads... Expanding Sidewalk Snow Removal Machines from 3 to 12 Units... Increasing 1-Ton Snow Material Spreaders from 4 to 13 Units
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has strengthened its snow removal response capabilities for sidewalks and side streets.
Snow removal work has been mainly carried out on roads used by vehicles, causing inconvenience to residents as snow removal on sidewalks and side streets, which are pedestrian spaces, has been relatively delayed compared to the roads. Additionally, although the areas of sidewalks and side streets are extensive, snow removal has been primarily manual, resulting in high fatigue among workers and low efficiency.
To enable rapid snow removal response on sidewalks and side streets, Geumcheon-gu is expanding the operation of the ‘sidewalk snow removal machines’ and 1-ton snow spreaders, along with vehicles and drivers, as part of the ‘Mobile Snow Removal Team.’ The number of sidewalk snow removal machines has increased from 3 to 12, and the 1-ton snow spreaders from 4 to 13.
Sidewalk snow removal machines are prioritized for deployment in areas with high foot traffic such as subway entrances and bus stops. To ensure quick movement to sidewalk snow removal sections, bases have been established along major routes including Siheung-daero, Doksan-ro, and Geumha-ro.
The Mobile Snow Removal Team will promptly support community service centers during heavy snowfall to strengthen snow removal response on side streets.
The district conducted safety training and test drives for sidewalk snow removal machine operators, and to ensure efficient operation of the Mobile Snow Removal Team, simulation training was carried out with snow removal personnel from each neighborhood to identify side street routes.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “We will introduce mechanized snow removal on pedestrian areas such as sidewalks and side streets, where snow removal has been relatively delayed during heavy snowfall, to minimize inconvenience to residents.”
