Discharge of Approximately 7,800 Tons into the Sea in Front of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant over 17 Days
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) in Japan has decided to begin the fourth ocean discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (referred to as "treated water" by the Japanese government) in late February next year, Kyodo News reported on the 18th.
According to Kyodo News, TEPCO will release approximately 7,800 tons of contaminated water into the sea in front of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant over 17 days during the fourth discharge, similar to the first through third discharges.
Previously, TEPCO started the first discharge on August 24 and completed the third discharge on the 20th of last month. The total amount of contaminated water disposed of through the first three discharges reached about 23,400 tons.
TEPCO plans to discharge an additional 7,800 tons by March next year, disposing of a total of 31,200 tons of contaminated water, and will announce the amount of contaminated water to be discharged over the one-year period starting April next year at a later date.
