CES2024 Features Samsung and LG CEOs... The Key Topic is 'Hyperconnected Experience'

Jung Ki-sun to deliver keynote speech

At the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition 'CES 2024,' held early next year in Las Vegas, USA, attention is expected to focus not only on new technologies but also on the attendance of key figures. As artificial intelligence (AI) and mobility emerge as the main themes of this event, a large number of executives from major companies such as Samsung, LG, SK, and Hyundai Motor, including Chairmen Chey Tae-won and Chung Eui-sun, will attend. In particular, with over 500 domestic participating companies, it is anticipated that more businesspeople will visit this event than ever before.

According to the business community on the 18th, the CEOs of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will attend CES 2024, held from the 9th to the 12th of next month (local time), to directly present their companies' AI visions. As indicated by this year's theme, "ALL TOGETHER, ALL ON.," the 'on-device' trend is expected to take hold in earnest after next year, placing greater emphasis on promoting 'AI environment construction.'

Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics (Head of DX Division), will announce the AI strategy under the theme "Smart Hyperconnected Experiences in Everyday Life for Everyone" at this event. Beyond unveiling new designs of home appliances and technologies, he is expected to introduce Samsung Electronics' future technologies and strategies, including the self-developed generative AI model 'Gauss.' Samsung plans to equip the Galaxy S series smartphones, scheduled for release early next year, with AI features.

Jo Joo-wan, President of LG Electronics, will deliver a presentation under the theme "Redefining the Customer's Future," introducing 'differentiated customer experiences' centered on AI. LG is expected to concretize its '2030 Future Vision' to transform from a company that excels only in home appliances into a 'smart life solutions company' that connects and expands various customer experiences.

There is also a possibility that major company owners will appear at CES. Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, who visited CES for the first time earlier this year, is highly likely to visit the venue again next year for the second consecutive year to promote SK's commitment to carbon neutrality (net zero). The business community expects that since SK Group operates a joint exhibition hall for seven affiliates?SK Inc., SK Innovation, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, SK E&S, SK Ecoplant, and SKC?at the group level, Chairman Chey will likely personally promote eco-friendly innovative technologies.

Hyundai Motor Group is reported to set up an exhibition hall of unprecedented scale. It is known that hundreds of people, including Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, CEOs of each affiliate, and key executives, will accompany the group. Major affiliates such as Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Hyundai Mobis will each have their own booths, unveiling a large number of advanced technologies and products related to software-defined vehicles (SDV), including electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity. In particular, Kia will participate with a booth for the first time in five years since 2019, unveiling the actual purpose-built vehicle (PBV) for the first time and announcing a phased roadmap and business strategy.

On the other hand, Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, is unlikely to attend CES. After attending CES consistently for seven years until 2013, starting as a Samsung Electronics executive in 2007, he has not attended since. However, as Samsung Electronics recently established new organizations such as the Future Business Planning Group to strongly demonstrate its intention to pioneer new areas, there is speculation that he might personally oversee CES to grasp the flow of changes in advanced industrial technologies.

Gu Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, has not attended CES since his inauguration in 2018, but this year shows somewhat different trends. Since he is directly overseeing the preparation status and nurturing strategies for domestic and international businesses in the ABC (AI, Bio, Cleantech) fields, there is a somewhat higher possibility that he will attend CES.

Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, will be the only Korean businessperson to deliver a keynote speech at CES 2024. Through his keynote, Vice Chairman Jung will announce an infrastructure innovation strategy based on 'Site Transformation.' 'Site Transformation' refers to a business strategy aimed at solving humanity's challenges such as safety and security, supply chain establishment, and climate change. HD Hyundai plans to operate its exhibition hall at CES under three themes: Future Site, Twin Site, and Zero Site.
