[Featured Stock] LMS Discovers 'Nematic' in High-Temperature Superconductor Candidate... Measurement Equipment Gains Spotlight↑

LMS is showing strong performance. This is interpreted as highlighting the fact that the company possesses measurement equipment following news that a domestic research team observed a new material phase called ‘nematic’ in a high-temperature superconductor candidate material.

As of 1:24 PM on the 18th, LMS is trading at 7,290 KRW, up 11.81% from the previous day.

On the same day, the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) announced that the research team led by Kim Beom-jun, Deputy Director of the Atomic Control Low-Dimensional Electron System Research Group (Professor of Physics at Pohang University of Science and Technology), observed a liquid crystal-like material phase in quantum materials. Most materials exist in three phases: solid, liquid, and gas, but the fourth phase, ‘nematic’, which includes liquid crystals, simultaneously exhibits properties of both liquids and solids.

Although theoretical predictions that the nematic phase would exist in quantum mechanical spin (electron angular momentum) systems have been made for over half a century, this is the first time it has been confirmed in an actual material.

The discovery of the spin nematic phase could aid in the long-standing quest of physicists to find spin liquids. Professor Cho Gil-young of the Department of Physics at Pohang University of Science and Technology explained, “The academic community has been trying for decades to find spin liquids to utilize in quantum information technology. Spin nematic shares physical properties with spin liquids, making it a key clue in the search for spin liquids.”

The research team also suggested the possibility of a high-temperature superconducting phase in iridium oxide. Theoretically, the spin nematic phase, like spin liquids, can exhibit high-temperature superconductivity through spin quantum entanglement.

Meanwhile, LMS primarily operates in the manufacturing and sales of prism sheets, which are core components of LCD BLU. Among its products is the temperature and physical property measurement system liquid crystal measurement equipment (ALCT). According to the company, the multipurpose industrial research, process, and quality control equipment ALCT4 automatically measures the most important parameters of nematic and positive-negative liquid crystals.
