Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) has concluded the ‘Neighborhood 119, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)’ program held throughout this year with great response from residents.
Seo-gu announced on the 18th that from January to December this year, a total of 46 CPR training sessions were conducted to enable local residents to save the lives of family and neighbors in everyday emergencies by teaching chest compression resuscitation, automated external defibrillator (AED) usage, and airway obstruction response methods.

The training was promoted in three directions: ▲ visiting CPR training targeting neighborhood community leaders and workplaces ▲ operating a permanent CPR training center and CPR experience booths at local festivals in Hwajeong 1-dong in connection with the village BI (Together, Safe Village) ▲ CPR training for public officials.
Focusing on hands-on training, Seo-gu provided various education on emergency treatment methods that anyone can experience in daily life to 2,156 people throughout the year.
A resident who participated in the training said, “I have always been interested in CPR whenever I heard news about accidents and incidents, but I thought it would be difficult to receive training easily. I was very satisfied to be able to attend training near my home and directly experience CPR,” adding, “I hope many opportunities will be created so that I can definitely participate again next year.”
Seo-gu plans to produce CPR training videos using its mascot character ‘Haeoni’ and to make watching these videos a routine before various events and meetings to strengthen emergency preparedness through repetitive learning.
Park Yeonju, head of the Health Administration Division of Seo-gu, said, “We will continue to provide education so that all residents can respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.”
