Geumcheon-gu Youth CEO Startup Product Sales Proceeds Donated Entirely as Scholarships

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that the youths who participated in the ‘2023 Youth CEO Project’ donated all the proceeds (1,135,000 KRW) from selling their startup items to the Geumcheon Future Scholarship Foundation.

The ‘Youth CEO Project’ is a specialized child-friendly city initiative by Geumcheon-gu aimed at expanding career opportunities for youths and instilling proper economic values. A total of 21 youths aged 9 to 24, residing in Geumcheon-gu or attending schools located in Geumcheon-gu, participated.

The participating youths formed five startup clubs. Through entrepreneurship education, each club selected startup products reflecting social issues and received capacity-building training from experts in various fields on topics such as ‘entrepreneurial economics’ and ‘item production and packaging.’ They then discussed pricing and sales strategies and monitored the production process.

The youths developed products including ▲ sugar-reduced ‘Zero Tanghulu’ ▲ upcycled keychains and phone grips ▲ sea gem necklaces ▲ plaster trays. They sold these self-made products directly to residents at events such as the Geumcheon Municipal Youth Center Festival (August), Youth Harmony Square (October), and Youth Union Festival (November), generating proceeds of 1,135,000 KRW.

The ‘2023 Youth CEO Project’ will conclude with a performance sharing meeting on December 22, where participants will watch a year-long activity video and share their reflections. Youths interested in entrepreneurship can apply during the 2024 participant recruitment period.

Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “I hope the activities from product development to sales have become a valuable asset for youths to achieve their dreams,” and added, “We will continue to support various opportunities to help youths develop their capabilities.”
