Seongbuk-gu Sets Up Warm Heat Tent for Residents Waiting for Buses in Cold Wave Warmth Tent

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro, hereinafter referred to as ‘the district’) is implementing a ‘Comprehensive Winter Cold Wave Countermeasure’ until March next year to minimize damage to residents caused by the cold wave during winter.

The district has prepared thorough cold wave measures including ▲establishing a cold wave situation management system ▲protecting vulnerable groups during cold waves ▲safety and health management to prevent cold-related illnesses among outdoor workers ▲and operation and management of cold wave mitigation facilities.

The district operates various cold wave reduction facilities such as heated chairs and warming tents throughout the area to help residents stay warm.

Heated chairs are installed at 103 roadside bus stops. They automatically activate when the temperature drops below 15℃, maintaining the seat surface temperature at 37℃ to provide warmth. Warming tents have also been installed at six bus stops and crosswalks. Measuring 3.8m wide and 1.6m long, they can accommodate about 10 adults simultaneously. Their wind-blocking structure helps users avoid the cold. Additionally, the smart shelter near Gireum Station bus stop at 367-2 Jeongneung-ro operates heating 24 hours a day.

Measures to protect vulnerable groups during cold waves are also being implemented. Health checks and cold wave action guidelines are provided through visits, phone calls, or text messages to high-risk groups such as elderly living alone, homeless people, disabled persons, and those with chronic illnesses. Furthermore, 35 cold wave shelters are operated throughout the district, allowing all residents, including vulnerable groups, to escape the cold.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We will implement thorough comprehensive winter cold wave countermeasures to ensure that residents do not experience inconvenience or damage due to the cold wave, creating a safe and warm Seongbuk.”
