Actress Suzy will appear in a hanbok at the heart of New York's Times Square on Christmas Eve, following Kim Yuna last year.


On the 15th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that from 6 a.m. on the 24th to 2 a.m. on the 25th Eastern Time, Suzy's hanbok pictorial video will be broadcast on the Broadway electronic billboard in Times Square, New York. The hanbok Suzy will wear was selected through a public contest.

The Ministry has been promoting collaboration between hanbok small and medium enterprises and Hallyu cultural artists, aiming to extend Hallyu to traditional culture. Last year, former figure skater Kim Yuna participated as a hanbok model.


This year, six small and medium enterprises developed hanbok products, designing them to maintain traditional elements of hanbok while incorporating modern trends and sensibilities.


Suzy's hanbok pictorial can be first seen in the January issue of a famous fashion magazine on the 20th.

The hanbok developed this year will be available from December 26 on the Hanbok Wave website and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation's YouTube channel. It will also be showcased at hanbok-related exhibitions and fashion shows such as the Newtro Festival (Culture Station Seoul 284), opening on February 7 next year, and Hanbok Culture Week (scheduled for the third week of October).


Jung Hyang-mi, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We will continue to make policy efforts to support diverse product development by small and medium enterprises for the development of the hanbok industry and the spread of hanbok culture."


Suzy, who wore the hanbok for the shoot, shared her thoughts: "Wearing hanbok made by various designers for me makes me feel closer to hanbok. I hope this helps to promote hanbok widely, even if just a little."
