Seodaemun-gu, Yeonhui 2 District Public Redevelopment Project Fully Launched

Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced that the "Housing Maintenance-Type Public Redevelopment Project Maintenance Plan Decision and Maintenance Area Designation (Draft)" for Yeonhui 2 District, around 721-6 Yeonhui-dong (area 49,745㎡), was officially decided and announced on the 14th of this month.

The target area is adjacent to Ansan Urban Nature Park to the south and bordered by Hongjecheon Stream to the north, providing a pleasant residential environment. However, most of the area consists of Type 1 General Residential Zone and Type 2 General Residential Zone (up to 7 floors), and the significant elevation differences within the district posed challenges for redevelopment projects.

In fact, it was designated as a housing reconstruction maintenance planned area in 2011, but the project did not proceed and the designation was canceled in 2015. Later, in March 2021, it was selected as a candidate site in the joint public redevelopment candidate site contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City, enabling the promotion of the public redevelopment project.

Seodaemun-gu established the maintenance plan (draft) and applied for area designation to Seoul City. After passing the review by the Seoul City Urban Planning (Delegated Subcommittee), it was officially designated as a maintenance area. Going forward, Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) will become the project implementer and actively promote the public redevelopment project, planning to supply a total of 1,067 households in buildings up to 25 floors.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, "We will spare no administrative support to improve residents' housing welfare through the improvement of the residential environment via the public redevelopment project."
