Large Corporation's Manufactured Abalone Mushroom Porridge Fails Bacterial Count Standards
Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Recalls and Halts Sales of the Product
An instant abalone mushroom porridge product manufactured by a major corporation has been recalled after failing bacterial count standards.
According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on the 15th, the abalone mushroom porridge product produced at the Jincheon factory of the major corporation was found to be non-compliant with bacterial count standards based on test results from the Daegu Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute, leading the local government of Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk to suspend its sale.
The product's expiration date is June 21, 2024, and the packaging unit is 280g.
The MFDS urged, "Sellers who have the recalled food products in stock should stop selling and return them to the recalling business operators," and added, "Consumers are requested to return the products to the recalling establishments and actively cooperate with the recall of hazardous foods."
Meanwhile, bacterial count measures the total number of viable bacteria capable of forming colonies on agar medium per 1ml. The cultivation conditions involve incubating at 35~37℃ for 24±2 hours in a humidified incubator, and the average colony count is expressed as the general bacterial count per 1ml of the sample. Water containing more than 100 viable bacteria per 1ml is considered unsuitable as drinking water.
On the 1st of this month, the MFDS had also suspended sales after finding that the bacterial count in peeled quail egg products sold in the market exceeded the standard by 285 times.
