People Power Party to Hold Senior Members' Joint Meeting and Supreme Council Meeting on the 13th
In Succession... "Quick Formation of Emergency Committee System"
Yoon Jae-ok, the acting leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 14th, the day after former leader Kim Ki-hyun resigned, "Everyone agreed that the situation is not suitable for holding a party convention, and we concluded that it is desirable to quickly establish a leadership system under a provisional emergency committee."
After holding the senior members' meeting and the Supreme Council meeting consecutively that morning, Acting Leader Yoon told reporters this. He said, "We will do our best to appoint the chairperson of the emergency committee as soon as possible," adding, "We will look for someone who meets the public's expectations and gains public sympathy, someone capable and competent enough to achieve the paramount task of winning the general election, based on such criteria."

He dismissed the possibility of co-chairpersons for the emergency committee. Acting Leader Yoon said, "This is my personal opinion and no consensus has been reached, but having one chairperson is much more efficient for organizational management than having co-chairpersons."
The schedules for the nomination management committee and the election countermeasures committee, which were planned to be launched in mid-December, have been handed over to the emergency committee. Acting Leader Yoon explained, "There are three major organizations to be formed: the emergency committee, the nomination management committee, and the election countermeasures committee. The new chairperson of the emergency committee will have to listen to the opinions of various lawmakers and decide the order in which these organizations will be formed." However, regarding the nomination management committee, he added, "According to the party's constitution and regulations, it must be formed by January 10, so we will adhere to that rule."
In response to criticism from some quarters that former leader Kim should have declared he would not run for his constituency along with his resignation announcement, he said, "He stepped down from the party leadership and paved the way for innovation within the party. That should be highly appreciated."
Regarding the figures mentioned as candidates for the chairperson of the emergency committee, Acting Leader Yoon said, "We need to look further. Besides the people currently mentioned, anyone could be considered," and added, "We will gather a variety of opinions."
