LGD Applies Energy Reduction Technology to OLED Panels..."Enhancing Performance and Improving Efficiency"

Why LGD OLED is Gaining Attention in the Eco-Friendly Era

LG Display announced on the 14th that it is actively introducing energy reduction technologies to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels in line with the eco-friendly consumption trend.

LGD improved energy efficiency by 22% by applying ‘Meta Technology’ to its 3rd generation OLED TV panels. Meta Technology is a high-level technique that deposits self-luminous organic materials on a bumpy ultra-fine lens pattern, minimizing internal light loss and maximizing external emission. LGD has established its own ‘mid-to-long-term energy reduction product development roadmap’ and is also developing low-carbon OLED technology, as well as process and component reduction technologies.

LGD’s eco-friendly achievements are influenced by its self-developed ‘Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).’ LCA is a technique that comprehensively evaluates all environmental impacts occurring throughout the entire product life cycle, including development, production, transportation, sales, and disposal, to develop eco-friendly products. Within the display industry, LGD is leading the field by proactively applying LCA.

Last year, LGD completed LCA for 21.5% of its sold products, and this year it is increasing LCA coverage to 40%, nearly double, to proactively respond to eco-friendly product development.

Meanwhile, LGD’s OLED panels are also called human-friendly displays. OLED TV panels (based on 65 inches) emit only half the amount of harmful blue light that causes eye fatigue and sleep disorders compared to premium LCD TV panels of the same size range. They also do not produce screen flickering, which can cause vision deterioration and headaches.
