It has been reported that popular Hong Kong actress Chu Haimi (周海媚, 57), who was recently rumored to have passed away, has actually died due to illness. However, the specific illness has not been disclosed.
Chu Haimi's Chinese agency announced on the 12th (local time) via Weibo (a Chinese social networking service), "Chu Haimi left us on the 11th. We are very saddened to share this news," adding, "We hope to meet again in the next life." The agency also posted a photo of Chu Haimi holding a flower and smiling.
The agency stated that Chu Haimi had been suffering from a chronic illness. They also mentioned, "She passed away without receiving treatment." However, the exact illness was not revealed.
Recently, rumors about Chu Haimi's death spread in China. On Weibo, baseless speculations by netizens circulated, such as "She had an accident at home" and "She fell into a coma during hospital treatment."
In response, famous Hong Kong director Jin Hun-gi personally clarified, "I heard that Chu Haimi was hospitalized in a Beijing hospital due to health reasons, but she is not in critical condition nor has she passed away."
Chu Haimi's agency remained silent amid the controversy but eventually officially announced her death on the 12th.
Meanwhile, Chu Haimi is a Hong Kong-born actress who debuted in the entertainment industry through the 1985 Miss Hong Kong pageant. She gained public recognition by starring in the drama adaptation of Jin Yong's famous novel, "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 1994."
She also participated in various works such as the drama "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and the film "Yang Men Nu Zhang," and in 1995, she released an album and worked as a singer.
