Lee Sang-min Launches 'Attack on Lee Jae-myung'... "Eradicating Intra-Party Democracy"

Sangmin Lee "Democratic Party is Destroying Democracy"
Gwanghyun Baek "Stripping Barbarians of Citizenship, Are They Communists?"

Recently, Independent lawmaker Lee Sang-min, who left the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized party leader Lee Jae-myung together with Baek Gwang-hyun, a 'pro-Moon faction' YouTuber who was expelled from the Democratic Party's rights party members.

On the afternoon of the 13th, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, stating, "The Democratic Party advocates democracy, but it is actually destroying democracy," and "It has consistently engaged in behaviors that destroy intra-party democracy." Introducing Baek, who joined the press conference, he added, "I came today to hear from Baek Gwang-hyun about the extent to which (intra-party democracy has collapsed)."

Baek mentioned his expulsion from the rights party members, saying, "I feel like a barbarian who invaded our country forcibly stripped me of my nationality," and stated, "I have not spread false information; rather, those who have caused controversy with money envelopes, coins, corporate cards, and entertainment, whom I have criticized, are the ones who have damaged the party's honor." Previously, the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Province Ethics Tribunal decided on the highest level of disciplinary action, 'expulsion,' against Baek for spreading false information about leader Lee Jae-myung and others, thereby damaging the party's honor.

Baek pointed out, "The people I criticized are all power holders and public figures, always potential targets of criticism," and added, "If you turn a blind eye, remain silent, and unconditionally support just because they are in the same party, that is not a democratic party but a communist party." He also claimed procedural flaws in the disciplinary decision by the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Province, saying, "At the first ethics committee meeting, the chairperson clearly promised to hold an additional session to guarantee the right to defense, but later the chairperson was replaced, no opportunity for rebuttal was given, and expulsion was unilaterally notified by mail."

In particular, he emphasized, "I am currently conducting a lawsuit to suspend the duties of party leader Lee Jae-myung together with thousands of rights party members," and added, "I suspect this is an attempt to remove my status as a rights party member, who is a creditor in this lawsuit." He continued, "Purging immorality within us is not 'internal snitching' but internal cleaning," and "It is natural to start appealing for public support after completing this cleaning."

Meanwhile, after leaving the party, Lee Sang-min, who has been receiving 'love calls' from the People Power Party, responded to reporters' questions about his future plans after the press conference by saying, "I am considering it carefully."
