As Kim Ki-hyun, the leader of the People Power Party, enters a period of deliberation, the possibility of transitioning to an emergency response committee based on his resignation is increasing. In this context, former lawmaker Kim Young-woo raised his voice, saying that Han Dong-hoon should run in Gangbuk rather than become the emergency response committee chairman.
Kim, who served as the campaign committee chairman for Ahn Cheol-soo's camp in the last party convention, said on MBC's "Kim Jong-bae's Focus" on the 13th, "From the perspective of preparing for the metropolitan area election, Minister Han, as the Minister of Justice, placed great importance on the principles of fairness and common sense, so I hope he devises a general election strategy that fits that and also takes election steps accordingly. For example, rather than a completely unwinnable district, Minister Han could definitely win in a fairly tough district in Gangbuk."
He added, "If he properly walks the path of politics while doing so, he could become a great politician," and said, "For many young people as well, Minister Han, by competing in the primary and the general election based on the principles of fairness and common sense, will create a synergy effect that is especially positive for all citizens, particularly metropolitan area voters."
In response to the host's question about whether Minister Han could help in the general election, which could serve as a mid-term evaluation of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, he said, "Rather than taking full responsibility for the general election, it would be most effective for him to fight hard as a first-term lawmaker, deliver messages to the public, advocate for reformist conservatism, and talk about warm conservatism. That would have a positive effect on our entire party."
Having declared his candidacy for Dongdaemun-gap, he said, "The atmosphere within the party is good, in the region. But everyone says that the party-wide reform at the central party level must succeed, and there is real concern about this," and added, "So we really need to think about this with urgency. This is not a trivial matter."
He said, "Ultimately, the victory or defeat depends on how much more we can secure the centrist voters, but many of those centrists who supported us until the last presidential election have now left," and emphasized, "With a sense of urgency, candidate selection reform through primaries that adhere to principles and common sense must be achieved."
