Muan County Council Member Jeong Eun-gyeong Proposes Measures to Promote Barefoot Walking in Muan

290th 2nd Regular Session 9th Plenary Meeting 5-Minute Free Speech

"Policy Attention from the Executive Branch Needed to Promote Barefoot Walking"

Jeong Eun-kyung, a member of the Muan County Council in Jeollanam-do, proposed the “Creation of Barefoot Paths and Activation Plans for Barefoot Walking in Muan County” during a 5-minute free speech at the 9th plenary session of the 2nd regular meeting of the 290th session held on the 11th.

Councilor Jeong stated, “Barefoot walking has already established itself as a nationwide health culture movement, combining functional benefits such as health improvement with advantages like low budget, ease, and no cost, along with active support from local governments,” and explained, “Many local governments are actively competing to create conditions for barefoot walking.”

He continued, “Muan has optimal natural conditions and comparative advantages such as the Yeongsan Riverbank, mudflats, and loess,” emphasizing, “The barefoot walking boom and the promotion of a ‘Muan-type Walkable City’ present a golden opportunity for Muan to secure its position as a sacred place for ‘barefoot walking and ultra-earthing.’”

In particular, he said, “Barefoot walking is not a temporary trend but a new health culture movement that fills the deficiencies of daily life,” adding, “Under the policy interest of the executive branch, proper preparations and execution systems must be established, including the establishment of a basic plan, securing funding, and clear role setting between the general planning department and the execution department.”

Councilor Jeong Eun-kyung concluded the 5-minute free speech by saying, “I hope barefoot walking will deeply take root in the daily lives of the residents,” and expressed expectations that “Walkable City Muan and Earthing Muan, worthy of the status of a ‘100,000 population happy city,’ will be nurtured together by all residents.”
