Mapo-gu to Operate Seasonal Fine Dust Management System from December to March Next Year...Strengthening Fine Dust Reduction Measures
District to Implement 15 Management Actions in 4 Areas...Special Mileage Payments, Use of IoT-Based Measurement Networks
High Concentration Fine Dust Incidents Increase as Winter Fully Sets In
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is stepping up the operation of the seasonal management system to reduce fine dust from December, when high concentrations of fine dust frequently occur, until March next year.
Now in its fifth year, the 'Fine Dust Seasonal Management System' is a system that strengthens measures to reduce and manage fine dust emissions from winter, when fine dust concentrations can be up to 1.5 times higher than usual, through early spring.
The district plans to actively implement 15 management tasks across four sectors: transportation, heating, workplaces, and exposure reduction.
First, in the transportation sector, the operation of Grade 5 emission vehicles, vehicles emitting excessive smoke, and idling vehicles will be restricted and monitored. Additionally, to encourage voluntary participation from residents, 10,000 mileage points will be specially awarded to registered private car mileage users who drive less than 1,697 km.
In the heating sector, support will be provided for low-income households to replace home eco-friendly boilers, and 10,000 mileage points will be given to Eco Mileage members who reduce their energy consumption by 20% or more compared to the average usage over the previous two years. Furthermore, 19 energy-intensive workplaces in the area will be inspected to ensure compliance with heating temperature regulations (18°C for public, 20°C for private).
In the workplace sector, fine dust reduction management will be implemented for 91 local air pollutant-emitting workplaces and 60 sites generating scattered dust. A citizen participation monitoring team will be formed to patrol and educate against illegal burning of household waste.
In the exposure reduction sector, three sections (13.2 km) in areas densely populated with vulnerable facilities such as schools and hospitals will be designated as fine dust intensive management roads, with increased frequency of road surface cleaning and water washing.
Along with this, indoor air quality management and fine dust alert systems will be implemented at 33 multi-use facilities including daycare centers, subway stations, and cinemas.
In particular, the district plans to operate real-time measurement and display of fine dust concentrations using IoT-based fine dust monitoring networks installed at 31 locations near schools, roads, and parks, enabling residents to respond quickly.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “We will do our best to protect residents' health by actively promoting the fine dust seasonal management system,” and added, “When a fine dust advisory is issued, we ask residents to refrain from unnecessary outings, stay hydrated, and actively cooperate with the district’s fine dust reduction measures.”
