[One Day Ten Thousand Steps, One Day Thousand Characters] Walk, Run, Rest... Employee Health Dramatically Improved as Company Takes Initiative

Posco Humans, located in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, is Korea's first subsidiary-type standard workplace for people with disabilities, established by POSCO to provide quality jobs for the disabled. As employees' health deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company launched the 'Obesity Escape Project.' A representative activity is the 'With Walk On,' a daily 7,000-step walking campaign. The company awarded its own social contribution mileage based on the average monthly step count. Over six months in 2022, 126 obese employees lost an average of 3.43 kg. Some employees lost between 7 kg and 12 kg. This year, the step count target was raised from 7,000 to 10,000 steps.

Spigen Korea, located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, fully supports gym membership fees and has increased the resting space per person. CA Lab, based in Busan, operates various incentive programs to promote employee health, such as awarding prizes to non-smokers, providing vouchers upon submission of exercise receipts, and offering prizes for exercise clubs. The company has also implemented a four-day workweek and mandatory two rest breaks per day, and operates various spaces for rest during work, including sleep capsules and coin karaoke rooms.

Hyundai Mobis held a 'Summer Vacation Body Contest' for all employees, implementing a body fat and muscle mass management program. Out of 551 participants, 53 were selected; average body fat decreased by 4.7 kg, and muscle mass increased by 1.3 kg. LIG Nex1 created a health-friendly environment within the company, including a multipurpose sports field, futsal court, and tennis courts for health-friendly activities such as the '10,000 Steps Walk.' LG Uplus manages high-risk groups based on health checkup results using safety bands and other tools.

Including these companies, 27 were newly certified as health-friendly companies. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Promotion Institute held the '2023 Health-Friendly Company Certification Performance Conference' on the 12th at Seoul Boco Gangnam in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The health-friendly company certification system is based on the National Health Promotion Act and certifies companies that create a health-friendly culture and environment in the workplace and support employees in actively managing their health. Health-friendly companies are selected through document and on-site inspections and employee satisfaction surveys. This year, 47 companies applied, and 27 were finally certified. Certified health-friendly companies can use the certification mark and receive benefits such as preferential issuance of immigration cards by the Ministry of Justice. The certification is valid for three years.
