Former leader of the Democratic Party, Lee Nak-yeon, hinted at the formation of a new party, stating that "after waiting more than five months since returning to the country, I could not sense any desirable change within the party." In response, Lee Kyung, the Democratic Party's full-time deputy spokesperson, criticized him by saying, "He should not even be qualified to run."
On the 12th, the deputy spokesperson wrote on his social media (SNS), "Is this a valid reason to form a new party?" and raised his voice, saying, "A person who has served as a Democratic Party lawmaker, Prime Minister, party leader, and metropolitan government head barely puts forward such a reason for party division."

He emphasized, "Look at how the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is acting," and added, "Those who did not fulfill their roles in the last presidential election and caused division should have no qualifications or roles in this general election."
Former leader Lee has recently been suggesting the possibility of forming a new party day after day. The day before, he also met with Lee Sang-min, an independent lawmaker who left the party from the non-Myeong faction. At this meeting, Lee Nak-yeon asked Lee Sang-min to "contribute a lot of wisdom," and Lee Sang-min reportedly replied, "I will," as revealed on MBN live broadcast the previous day.
