Gwangjin-gu Holds Exhibition of Companion Plants Featuring Stories of Seniors

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is holding a "Companion Plant Exhibition" until the 15th to alleviate the loneliness of vulnerable elderly residents.

The district promoted the "Companion Plant Distribution Project" to provide emotional stability for low-income seniors. The purpose is to help those who are easily prone to feelings of isolation enjoy hobby activities, ease their loneliness, and feel revitalized in life. Additionally, it has the effect of refreshing their living environment and reducing feelings of depression.

Accordingly, in April, 140 elderly people received companion plants. The plants consisted of six types that are easy for beginners to grow, including Baekryanggeum, Jagumu, Nokbosu, and Haengboknamu, with one pot distributed to each recipient according to their preferences.

An "Horticulture Program" for emotional cultivation was also provided. Participants made pressed flower fans and scented pouches using flowers and leaves, planted wooden pots, and learned how to care for companion plants. The program received positive feedback as elderly participants with shared hobbies gathered and communicated warmly.

The "Companion Plant Exhibition" is being held on the first floor of the Gwangjin Senior Welfare Center. Visitors can see 30 companion plants carefully nurtured by the elderly over eight months, along with charming handmade accessories.

Additionally, the exhibition warms hearts through stories of elderly people who found a sense of fulfillment in life by growing plants.

District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "I hope this has been an opportunity for seniors to overcome depression and regain their motivation in life by caring for companion plants," and added, "We are operating the exhibition to share the affectionate hearts of the elderly, so we ask for your great interest."
