The Women Filmmakers Association announced the recipient of the '2023 Woman Filmmaker of the Year Award' at the 24th 2023 Women Filmmakers Festival on the 11th.
The award ceremony for the 'Woman Filmmaker of the Year Award' will be held on the 14th at 7:30 PM at Indie Space in Seoul. The event will be hosted by actress Moon So-ri.

The recipients were selected by the 2023 Women Filmmakers Festival 'Woman Filmmaker of the Year Award' nomination committee, based on theatrical releases and OTT (online video service) original films from November 6 of last year to October 31 of this year. Among these, the Acting Award and New Actress Award are chosen by synthesizing the opinions of members and board directors of the Women Filmmakers Association, composed of active women filmmakers.
This year, awards will be presented in a total of 12 categories, including the Merit Award recipient Director Im Soon-rye, Woman Filmmaker of the Year Award recipient actress Bae Doo-na, Kang Soo-yeon Award recipient Won Seung-hwan, director of Indie Space, as well as Producer Award, Director Award, Screenplay Award, Acting Award, New Actress Award, Documentary Award, Technical Award, Public Relations & Marketing Award, and a newly established New Director Award category.
The Producer Award went to Baek Yeon-ja, CEO of Film Company Damdam, which produced Owl; the Director Award to Director Kim Mi-young for Jeolhaegodo; and the Screenplay Award to Director Lee Ji-eun for The Secret Hill. The Acting Award was given to Kim Sun-young for Dream Palace, and the New Actress Award to Go Min-si for Smuggling. The Documentary Award went to Director Hwang Yoon for Sura, the Technical Award to Art Director Jung Yi-jin for Spider's Web, and the Public Relations & Marketing Award to Meoriggot for 30 Days. Lastly, the honor of receiving the first-ever New Director Award goes to Director Kim Se-in for Two Women Wearing the Same Underwear.
The Women Filmmakers Association, which hosts the Women Filmmakers Festival, leads efforts to advocate for the rights of women filmmakers and strives to create an inclusive and diverse film industry. One of its major projects is operating the Korea Film Gender Equality Center Ddeunddeun.
The Korea Film Gender Equality Center Ddeunddeun (hereafter 'Ddeunddeun'), established in 2018, focuses on counseling and preventive education regarding sexual violence within the film industry. It supports legal aid and medical consultation fees for victims of sexual violence, helping resolve sexual violence cases and restore daily life. As part of efforts to eradicate sexual violence, it provides preventive education tailored to the characteristics of the film industry.
