Gochang-gun Receives 'Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation' at Safety Culture Awards

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation in the 'Safety Policy and Life Safety Merit Category' at the '2023 Safety Culture Awards' ceremony held on the 11th at the Government Sejong Convention Center Grand Ballroom.

According to the county on the day, the Safety Culture Awards, now in its 19th year, is the highest award in the field of safety life practice, presented by the government to encourage outstanding organizations and individuals who have contributed to spreading safety culture across various social sectors, and to discover and award excellent safety culture activities and cases.

The county was recognized for its contributions to creating a safe living environment through proactive responses to social and natural disasters such as emergency preparedness drills for residents at Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant, active response to weather disaster situations, establishment and implementation of earthquake disaster prevention plans, and maintenance of disaster-prone areas, as well as education for safety management personnel in water play areas, creation of safe and bright streets, and inspection of cooling systems at heat shelters.

Additionally, as an incentive for the award, the county will receive extra points in the 2024 Disaster Management Evaluation and was granted 200 million KRW from the National-Local Cooperation Special Grant, enabling further efforts to make Gochang safer.

County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I sincerely thank many people who have quietly worked to create a safe living environment in unseen places,” and added, “Taking this award as an opportunity, we will do our best to make Gochang safer and a top-tier safety city.”
