The Kim Woo-joong Medical Professional Award was established by the non-profit Daewoo Foundation to boost the morale of healthcare workers who practice medical skills in shaded areas and embody sharing and love, and to promote them as social role models.

Despite becoming a first-class severe disabled person (quadriplegic) due to an unexpected accident, Professor Lee overcame his disability with indomitable spirit and effort and became a doctor. He is currently working as a professor at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital. He received the Medical Professional Award in recognition of his dedicated service spirit toward people with disabilities and his contribution to improving their health.

Since 2008, Professor Lee has provided detailed examinations and consultations for the oral health promotion and rehabilitation of people with disabilities at various institutions such as the Complex Welfare Center for the Disabled, the Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Elderly, and the Disabled Association, linking these services to treatment. Additionally, he has contributed to improving the oral health of people with disabilities through dozens of educational sessions and lecture sponsorships.

Previously, Professor Lee was recognized for his contributions to promoting oral health for people with disabilities and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award and the 8th Yoon Kwang-yeol Dental Medical Volunteer Award in 2019.

Professor Lee expressed his award acceptance remarks, saying, "As my motto is 'Let’s be a little warmer person than yesterday,' I want to continue to convey warmth to people with disabilities and neighbors who are in difficult circumstances."
