As part of this agreement, the two companies will develop a new Toyota membership service for new car buyers. Membership subscribers can charge up to 50,000 KRW for free during the first month after subscribing to LG Uplus's electric vehicle charging service, ‘VoltUP,’ and can also receive various joint promotional benefits. Membership will be available starting with customers who purchase the ‘5th generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)’ model, scheduled to be released domestically this month.
Korea Toyota Motor plans to install VoltUP charging stations at Toyota official dealer showrooms and service centers nationwide, and will continue to expand the infrastructure from there. In addition, the two companies plan to expand cooperation in various ways, such as strengthening driver benefits to attract the increasing number of new electric vehicle customers.
Hyun Jun-yong, Vice President and Head of LG Uplus EV Charging Business Group, said, “This MOU, signed in line with the launch of the 5th generation Prius model, is significant as a collaboration with a global automaker to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with Korea Toyota Motor not only to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure but also to develop customized benefits for customers.”
Toshiyuki Nakahara, Executive Director of Korea Toyota Motor, said, “As carbon neutrality through electrification is emphasized as a necessity rather than an option, Toyota is continuously striving to meet customer needs by offering various options including hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV),” and added, “Through this MOU, we will cooperate not only to launch electrified models but also to enhance customer convenience by expanding infrastructure.”
