Melon 'Data Lab' 2023 Year-End Summary
Kakao Entertainment's music platform Melon’s ‘Data Lab’ announced the year-end summary results for 2023 on the 11th.
From November 1, 2022, to October 31 of this year, the total number of streams played on Melon over one year reached 50,234,240,000. The total playback time was 1,079,910,000,000 seconds, which converts to 342,440 years on an annual basis.
The song that received 100,000 ‘Likes’ in the shortest period was Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ clean version. It achieved 100,000 likes in just 10 days. This song was also the first track by a male artist to rank number one on Melon’s daily and weekly charts in 2023. It reached the top 100 chart’s number one spot just 11 hours after release and became the first male idol to top the 2023 top 100 chart.
IVE also received 219,574 ‘Likes’ for their song ‘I AM,’ making it the most liked song of the year. It ranked second for ‘Songs that reached 100,000 likes in the shortest time in 2023’ and third for songs that held a long reign within the top 10 of the 2023 TOP100 chart.
Rookie group NewJeans also attracted attention. First, ‘Hype Boy’ was the song that stayed the longest within the top 10 of the top 100 chart this year, remaining for 4,191 hours in 2023 alone. ‘Ditto’ and ‘OMG’ ranked second and fourth, respectively. From Ditto to OMG to Hype Boy, these songs also took the top three spots for most selected songs in this year’s DJ playlists.
Data on overseas artists also sparked interest. Norwegian singer-songwriter Fedde Elias’s ‘Loving U Girl’ ranked 81st among the most selected songs in this year’s DJ playlists, despite never having appeared in the daily top 100 chart.
Jo Eun-young, head of Kakao Entertainment’s Melon Platform Planning Office, stated, “Through this Data Lab content, we aim to systematically show the support music fans have shown to artists throughout the year using Melon’s data,” adding, “Following the recently concluded MMA2023, this will be an opportunity to look back together on the representative musical achievements of the year.”
