Secretary General Yoo arrived at the Government Complex Gwacheon, where the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is located, at around 9:50 a.m. on the 9th as a suspect on charges including abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights.
Last year, the Board of Audit and Inspection conducted a special audit of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission following reports concerning former Chair Jeon's work attitude. The CIO suspects that Secretary General Yoo carried out the targeted audit with the intention of pressuring former Chair Jeon, whose term was guaranteed, to resign.
There are also allegations that the Board of Audit and Inspection's Secretariat, led by Secretary General Yoo, bypassed Chief Auditor Jo Eun-seok and unlawfully disclosed the audit report on the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The CIO had summoned Secretary General Yoo five times since October, but investigations were delayed as he refused to comply citing Board of Audit and Inspection duties.
