KOSDAQ-listed company Medicox (CEO Hyun Kyung-seok) has signed a battery cell engineering service contract with the U.S. battery company EOCELL. EOCELL has begun market analysis, production technology, and facility feasibility studies related to battery cells to strengthen the competitiveness of the joint venture in the future.
EOCELL's engineering services include ▲business planning (market research and market entry strategy) ▲material analysis and design (material portfolio) ▲preliminary battery material selection and testing (cell production portfolio) ▲equipment selection (list and cost of cell production equipment).
Patrick Gray, EOCELL's General Manager, stated, “We plan to analyze the future battery cell market from multiple angles, including manufacturing lines for prismatic and pouch-type battery cells, and conduct in-depth portfolio composition and testing for material selection such as cathode and anode materials to improve battery cell performance.”
For material testing, various cathode materials such as NCA, NCM, NCMA, LMO, LFP, and LCO will undergo half-cell (Harf Cell) testing. The tests will utilize 96 test channels owned by EOCELL in San Jose, USA. For anode materials, EOCELL will adopt graphite and silicon materials for which it holds patents.
Through this engineering service, EOCELL plans to ultimately derive a comprehensive execution plan covering specifications, construction costs, installation space, process maps, and essential utilities for the production facilities to be established by the joint venture in Korea, thereby securing competitiveness.
On the 5th (U.S. local time), the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of a joint venture in Korea and the construction of customer-tailored battery cell design and manufacturing facilities.
Hyun Kyung-seok, CEO of Medicox, said, “We expect this engineering service contract to strengthen the initial competitiveness of the joint venture to be established in the future,” adding, “Through this contract, the successful establishment of the R&D center and pilot line, which will determine the success of the battery cell business, can be promoted.”
