Cheongsong-gun Leads Efforts to Promote the Advantages of Stemless Cheongsong Apples On the 7th, Cheongsong County held a Cheongsong apple promotion and tasting event in Haeundae, Busan.

More than 20 members of the Cheongsong Apple GAP Project Group conducted a promotional and tasting event for about 3,000 Busan citizens and tourists visiting Haeundae, Busan, explaining the characteristics and advantages of stem-unremoved apples and widely publicizing the excellence of premium Cheongsong apples.

Stem-unremoved apples have various advantages, including ▲no additional labor required to cut the stem, reducing farm labor ▲high moisture content that maintains freshness ▲minimal weight loss, preventing quality deterioration.

In particular, according to research results announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, when apples are stored at room temperature for one week, the weight loss rate of stem-cut apples is 4.5%, whereas the weight loss rate of stem-unremoved apples is 2.8%. This shows that apples stored without cutting the stem experience less moisture loss and have a significantly longer storage period.

Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “Farmers have faced enormous labor costs and difficulties in securing manpower for stem removal work, but stem-unremoved apples have the great advantage of reducing unnecessary labor costs and lowering the evaporation rate of moisture, thereby enhancing freshness.” She added, “We plan to continue leading efforts to improve consumer awareness and further expand this initiative to improve the management of apple-growing farmers.”
