Five Stations Including Mokpo Station to Be Newly Renovated

Korail to Start Design Next Year
Improvement Project to Continue Until 2027

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 8th that it will promote renovation projects for five stations, including Mokpo, Jangseong, Taebaek, Gohan, and Wondong stations, to enhance customer convenience and facility safety.

Since 2020, KORAIL has been sequentially improving facilities of stations over 30 years old in collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, prioritizing based on factors such as aging and congestion levels.

The new station facilities will focus on △pleasant environment △ensuring customer safety △improving mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups △optimizing customer and staff flow through facility rearrangement, with design work scheduled to begin next year.

Mokpo Station, built in 1978, has aged over 45 years, and with the increasing number of users, the waiting room, restrooms, and other facilities will be expanded and rebuilt to about twice their current size.

Jangseong, Taebaek, Gohan, and Wondong stations will undergo full-scale reconstruction and expansion to maximize cost-effectiveness by improving space utilization.

KORAIL plans to continue renovation projects for 52 aging stations until 2027, with improvement work currently underway at 14 metropolitan subway stations and 13 general stations.
