Ministry of Agriculture Food Evaluation, Establishing a Healthy and Safe Food Win-Win Cycle System
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, was selected as the best local government in the 2023 Regional Food Index evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 7th and received the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award.
According to the county on the 8th, having risen one step from an excellent local government last year, it was selected as the best local government this year, proving that it is the nation's top clean food hub.
The Regional Food Index was first introduced in 2019 to gradually reduce regional disparities in food policies and to increase public interest and local governments' commitment to a region-centered virtuous cycle system of food.

To ensure fairness, the Consumer Citizens' Coalition conducts strict document screening and on-site evaluations to measure a total of 14 indicators, including △establishment of a public promotion system for regional food plans △operation of food committees △safety management of local agricultural products △organization of small and medium-sized farms △regional food consumption base △food support for vulnerable groups.
Haenam-gun received high evaluations for the county head's strong commitment to promoting the food plan and steadily establishing an institutional foundation.
Through the 2030 Food Plan during the 7th local government term, Haenam-gun established the Haenam Food Integrated Support Center Foundation and has successfully operated local food direct stores and public school meal centers since 2021.
Kim Cha-jin, Vice Governor, who attended the award ceremony, said, “Haenam-gun will take the lead in setting the standard for rural food policies, create pioneering policies, and make further efforts to provide safe and healthy food to residents and establish a sustainable food environment.”
