2000 Million Won Discount on Compact Cars... Rush of "I Bought EV9" Certifications

December Discount Promotion Continues

Kia's large electric SUV 'EV9' discount sale news is becoming a hot topic online. Netizens are sharing their joy of 'hot deals' by posting certified EV9 purchase quotes. Some even reported receiving discounts of up to 26 million KRW.

Kia Motors announced unprecedented new car sales conditions and events to mark December. Special purchase benefits for the EV9 are also being offered to expand electric vehicle adoption. The target customers are those who purchase EV9s produced between May and July, with various benefits such as electric vehicle subsidies for customers in regions where subsidies have ended, special low-interest long-term installment plans, and more.

Some EV9 models have prices dropping to the mid-50 million KRW range, and when combined with government subsidies and inventory discounts, it is said that customers can typically receive about 20 million KRW in discount benefits.

Accordingly, discount methods are being shared in online automotive communities. Since the 4th, many posts titled “EV9 discount rate is huge” and “If you want to buy an EV9, buy it now” have been posted in an electric vehicle cafe.

According to a quote revealed by a user who said they signed a contract on the 6th, the EV9 4WD Earth 7-seater model can be purchased for the 62 million KRW range including options. The base price of this model is 86 million KRW.

Not only that, there is also a certified post stating that the EV9 4WD Air 6-seater model was purchased at a 22 million KRW discount for the 60 million KRW range.

Netizens also shared tips on using credit card points. One netizen who bought the EV9 7-seater Earth 2WD model with about a 26 million KRW discount for 58 million KRW advised, “Models with large discounts seem to have very little inventory left, so if anyone is considering it, visit your nearest dealership tomorrow.”

Kia’s large-scale discount just six months after the EV9 launch is interpreted as an effort to clear inventory. Kia introduced the EV9 in June as “the most innovative car we have made,” but it has not even reached 10% of its annual sales target of 50,000 units this year.

Some pointed to the 'high price' as a factor in poor sales. The base price of the EV9 6-seater Air 2WD model was 77 million KRW, and the EV9 Earth 4WD model was 86 million KRW.

Meanwhile, imported car brands such as Mercedes-Benz Korea and BMW are also continuing year-end aggressive discounts. Mercedes-Benz, known for being stingy with discounts, is offering about a 21% discount on the luxury electric car EQS and is clearing inventory ahead of the full change of the E-Class.

According to this, the EQS 450+ 4Matic priced at 190 million KRW can be purchased for 150 million KRW with a 40 million KRW discount when using financial services. BMW is also discounting its best-selling 320i model by about 10 million KRW. Small models such as the 1 Series and X2 are also reportedly offering discounts exceeding 10 million KRW.
