On the same day, the Daedeok-eup Small Library also held its own graduation ceremony, presenting certificates of completion and stationery sets to the elderly who completed the education.
The Adult Literacy Class is a project led by the Ministry of Education aimed at improving the quality of life and reducing educational disparities through education for illiterate and low-education residents.
Based on a prior needs survey, Jangheung-gun operated four classes from July to November, twice a week: Daedeok class (14 people), Yuchimyeon (3 people), Busan Yongdu class (8 people), and Busan Yongban class (6 people).
The participating elderly expressed their appreciation, saying, "I am grateful for being able to write letters to my children and grandchildren and for opening new eyes."
Governor Kim Seong said, "I thank the elderly who did not give up and completed the education with passion for learning," and added, "We will operate various cultural programs that local elderly can participate in."
