100 Billion Won Invested to Promote Domestic Water Development Project by 2027
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has secured 7.9 billion KRW in national and provincial funds for the Okcheon and Gyegok Districts' rural living water development project and is set to actively promote the metropolitan water supply project.
According to the county on the 7th, the Okcheon and Gyegok Districts' living water supply project, with a total budget of 10 billion KRW, involves installing 31.5 km of distribution pipelines to connect to the metropolitan water supply system.
Okcheon and Gyegok-myeon are the only areas in Haenam-gun without a connected water supply, and this project is expected to greatly help alleviate residents' inconveniences such as drinking water shortages during droughts. The project is scheduled to start basic and detailed design in 2024 and aims for completion in 2027.
Haenam-gun is accelerating its water supply projects to provide clear and clean tap water throughout the entire jurisdiction.
The Samsan and Hwasan Districts' rural living water development project, with an investment of 24.1 billion KRW, has completed the installation of water supply pipelines and is currently expanding branch pipelines for each village.
Additionally, the Hyonsan and Okcheon Districts' rural living water development projects are set to be completed next year. The third phase of the Hyonsan Gushiri to Ilpyeong-ri section has been completed, and the Okcheon District project, aimed at supplying tap water to the Okcheon Industrial Complex area and surrounding villages, is currently installing the Okcheon water distribution reservoir.
The Hyonsan-myeon Water Welfare Expansion Project, carried out in cooperation with the Korea Water Resources Corporation to supply metropolitan water to 15 villages in Hyonsan-myeon without water supply, is also scheduled for completion this year.
For the water supply in Gyegok-myeon, 19 billion KRW has been secured for the metropolitan water emergency supply network construction project between Okcheon and Gyegok, which has been underway since 2022. After completing the detailed design, construction began in June this year.
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “By around 2027, when the current projects are completed, stable supply of clear water through metropolitan and local water supply systems is expected to become visible throughout Haenam-gun. We will continue to expand the clean water supply projects, which are the most important factor directly linked to residents' health and quality of life.”
