Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare for contributing to the improvement of welfare for local residents in the 'Integrated Elderly Medical and Care Support Project' promoted by the government this year.
According to Nam-gu on the 7th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare selected 12 institutions, including local governments and corporations nationwide such as Nam-gu, which achieved outstanding results by providing various care services through the establishment of an integrated elderly medical and care promotion system, as recipients of the Minister of Health and Welfare commendation.
The Integrated Elderly Medical and Care Support Project was established to proactively address the rapidly increasing demand for medical and care services due to the aging population, as the elderly population is expected to exceed 10 million by 2025.
In particular, the Ministry of Health and Welfare designated 12 cities, counties, and districts nationwide as pilot project areas to develop models for supporting elderly life and health and care systems. Through project implementation, they are seeking ways to connect institutions providing medical, nursing, and care services. Additionally, 74 local governments, including Nam-gu, are conducting their own projects.
Nam-gu was recognized for its outstanding achievements while promoting the Gwangju+ Euddeumhyo Nam-gu Integrated Care, a regionally customized project linked to the Integrated Elderly Medical and Care Support Project.
The Gwangju+ Euddeumhyo Nam-gu Integrated Care project offers tailored one-stop integrated care for beneficiaries. Nam-gu has provided seven major care services to 1,364 local residents, ranging from housekeeping support to meals, accompaniment, health, safety, residential convenience, and temporary protection.
Furthermore, by offering specialized services such as home care for discharged single-person households and visiting laundry services, Nam-gu has built a more detailed welfare service network within the local community.
In addition, in August, a Gwangju-style integrated care field case presentation was held in Bongseon 1-dong, sharing vivid voices from the field and various cases. This helped shift the perception of care from being solely a family issue to a challenge that our society must solve, leading efforts to change awareness among community members.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will continue to provide more detailed care services such as Gwangju+ Euddeumhyo Nam-gu Integrated Care to local residents in need of care, alleviating the care burden on residents."
