Yongin City Takes Preemptive Measures Against Administrative Service Outages

Replacement of 89 Devices and Servers Including Backbone Switches

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that it plans to sequentially replace outdated computer and communication equipment and strengthen security investments to enable citizens to smoothly handle civil complaints and use the city’s website.

Yongin City Takes Preemptive Measures Against Administrative Service Outages

This plan is a response to the suspension of various administrative tasks and civil service issuance of certificates caused by last month's national administrative network failure. The city explained that it made this decision after conducting a recent self-inspection.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "Since equipment such as backbone switches can cause data bottlenecks leading to delays or service interruptions if their performance is poor, we have decided to promptly replace outdated equipment to ensure stable administrative services."

Earlier, at the end of last month, the city inspected 866 servers, networks, storage devices, and backups managed by 12 departments, including the city website, administrative information systems, security systems, civil complaint call center servers and programs, virtual accounts, ARS systems, land information systems, and health information systems.

Since the cause of last month's administrative network failure was identified as a malfunction in the network equipment of the National Information Resources Service authentication system for accessing the Saeol administrative information system, the city plans to prioritize replacing network equipment such as backbone switches that connect data and intrusion prevention systems.

Next year, the city plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection of systems in eight affiliated organizations and sequentially replace outdated equipment.
