Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a commemorative event for 'Volunteer Day' on the 5th at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium. The event was to comfort and express gratitude to the volunteers who have been active in the community throughout the year.

Volunteer Day is a legally designated commemorative day on December 5th every year to promote participation in volunteer activities and boost the morale of volunteers, and this year marked its 18th anniversary.

The event was held under the slogan "You are the happiness of Gwangjin," with about 200 volunteers including Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho attending. It was divided into the first part, a commemorative ceremony, and the second part, a congratulatory performance.

The first part of the ceremony included the introduction of guests, viewing of activity videos and case presentations, followed by the awarding of commendations. The district awarded certificates of commendation to 39 outstanding volunteers who contributed to the activation of volunteer work, and presented certificates and commemorative badges to residents who volunteered for more than 300 hours this year. In addition, excellent volunteer camps were selected based on the performance of volunteer camp operations.

The second part featured various congratulatory performances, including a performance by the Gwangjin Modern Saxophone Volunteer Group, a Nanta performance of "Ondal and Pyeonggang," and a couple's popera, providing a time to comfort and celebrate the volunteers, adding enthusiasm to the commemorative event.

Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "I express my respect and gratitude to all 90,000 volunteers who have quietly practiced love for the local community despite difficult conditions," and added, "We will continue to strive so that volunteers can serve with pride and dignity."
