BPA "Plastic Left by COVID-19 Revived as Emergency Kits for Children"

Reuse of Social Distancing Barriers, 1000 Sets Gifted to Children

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) delivers emergency kits made by repurposing plastic widely used during COVID-19 to children.

On the 6th, BPA announced that it held a volunteer activity at its headquarters with employees from Busan Urban Corporation, Korea Technology Finance Corporation, and other public institutions in the Busan area to upcycle transparent plastic partitions into emergency kits for children.

BPA participated in the "It's Okay, Safety Kit" project, which upcycles plastic partitions installed for social distancing during COVID-19 but no longer in use, into emergency kits for children through the Busan Regional Problem-Solving Platform.

BPA employees and others packed the components (hemostatic bandages, band-aids, disinfectant, flashlight, whistle, etc.) directly into emergency kit cases made from transparent partitions collected from schools and public institutions.

About 1,000 emergency kits made that day will be delivered to children from low-income families using 36 local children's centers in Busan and welfare centers operating the BPA Hope Pantry.

Kang Jun-seok, president of BPA, said, "Because schools, public institutions, and the local community worked together, plastic partitions left unused after the social distancing measures were lifted could be reborn as emergency kits for children," adding, "We will listen to local community issues and contribute to solving them."

The Busan Regional Problem-Solving Platform is a platform where citizens directly identify local issues and form a collaborative system with citizens, civic groups, public institutions, and local governments within the region to solve problems together.
