Job Share Size, 50s Rank First for the First Time
Although 870,000 jobs were added last year, about half of them, 440,000, were jobs for the elderly.
51% of the increased jobs are for those aged 60 and over... "Due to increased demand for care"
According to the '2022 Job Administrative Statistics Results' announced by Statistics Korea on the 7th, the total number of jobs last year was 26.45 million, an increase of 870,000 (3.4%) compared to the previous year.
By age group, jobs for those aged 60 and over increased by 440,000, the largest increase. One out of every two jobs added last year was for the elderly.
This was followed by increases in the 50s (260,000), 40s (100,000), and 30s (50,000).
Jobs for those aged 20 and under increased by 10,000 due to factors such as population decline. This accounts for about 1% of the total and was the smallest increase among all age groups.
A Statistics Korea official analyzed, "The recent clear increase in jobs in health and social welfare industries, where those aged 60 and over are highly concentrated, is due to the increased demand for care."

For the first time since statistics began in 2016, the 50s surpassed the 40s to rank first. This reflects the impact of population aging, including the rising average age of jobs.
This was followed by the 40s at 23.8% (6.31 million jobs) and the 30s at 20.0% (5.28 million jobs).
By gender, although the total number of jobs is higher for men, the growth rate was more prominent among women.
Jobs held by men were 14.99 million (56.7%), which is 1.31 times the 11.46 million (43.3%) held by women.
Compared to the previous year, women's jobs increased by 450,000 (4.1%), a larger increase than men's 420,000 (2.9%). In particular, while jobs for men in their 30s increased by 4,000, jobs for women in their 30s increased by 50,000.

A job refers to an employment position occupied by a worker and is a different concept from an employed person. For example, if one person works at a company during weekdays and as an academy instructor on weekends, that person counts as one employed person but holds two jobs.
