Blade Ent announced on the 6th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on token securities (STO) business with Greenwhale E&M, a waste landfill business company.
Through this MOU, the two companies will combine token securities with the high value-added business related to waste landfills. They plan to develop the landfill land and business profits into a business model called 'Landfill Token Securities,' a fractional investment form.
As waste continues to increase and landfill and treatment facilities become insufficient, the domestic waste treatment market has been rapidly growing recently. Due to the shortage of treatment facilities compared to the amount of waste generated, treatment costs have been steadily rising. According to the industry, the domestic waste treatment market size is expected to grow from KRW 19.4 trillion in 2021 to KRW 23.7 trillion by 2025.
Token securities (STO) are securities that digitize tangible or intangible assets using blockchain-based distributed ledger technology. Recently, the Korea Exchange applied to the Financial Services Commission for designation as an innovative financial service (financial regulatory sandbox) to open a token securities distribution market, making the launch of the exchange's digital securities market next year more visible.
A Blade Ent official stated, "Together with Greenwhale E&M, we will activate the high value-added waste landfill business using waste landfills and develop products that can maximize investors' profits," adding, "We plan to build token securities business models based on diversified underlying assets."
A Greenwhale E&M official said, "The waste landfill business requires a lot of liquidity in the early stages," and added, "We will actively cooperate with Blade Ent to help the waste landfill business through token securities."
The expected total area of the waste landfill site located in Gyeongbuk, which Greenwhale E&M is currently developing, is 43,765㎡, with an annual landfill capacity of 231,000 tons. The company expects annual sales of more than KRW 27 billion through the landfill. When converted over the 10-year landfill period, the total sales scale is expected to reach KRW 277.2 billion.
Blade Ent participated in the 'Bank Token Securities (STO) Consortium' led by NH Nonghyup Securities in June. The consortium consists of 18 fractional investment operators and the Bank Federation, including ▲SH Suhyup Bank ▲Jeonbuk Bank ▲IBK Industrial Bank of Korea ▲Shinhan Bank ▲Woori Bank ▲Galaxia Moneytree ▲Stockkeeper ▲Seoul Exchange ▲Tessa, among others.
