Oh Seok-hwan, the education secretary at the Presidential Office, has been nominated as the Deputy Minister of Education.
Kim Dae-gi, Chief Secretary of the Presidential Office, announced this during a personnel briefing held on the morning of the 6th at the Yongsan Presidential Office building in Seoul.
The newly appointed Deputy Minister Oh was born in 1964. He graduated from Dongguk University High School and earned a degree in English Language and Literature from Konkuk University. He later obtained a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University's Graduate School of Public Administration and completed a doctoral program in Philosophy at the University of Manchester in the UK.
He entered public service in 1992 by passing the 36th Administrative Examination. He served as Planning Officer at the Planning and Coordination Office of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Director of the Student Support Bureau, and was appointed Director General of the Education Welfare Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Education in 2020. Subsequently, he served as Director General of Higher Education Policy at the Ministry of Education and Director of the Planning and Coordination Office before assuming the position of Education Secretary at the Presidential Office in February this year.
While serving as Director General of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of Education, Deputy Minister Oh was recognized for his capabilities by leading key projects such as the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's national agenda of "Training One Million Digital Talents."
During the Moon Jae-in administration, he became a subject of investigation after it was revealed that he had previously led a confidential task force for the "State-issued History Textbook" policy during the Park Geun-hye administration.
