Former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil's proposal to form the 'Yoon Seok-yeol Resignation Party,' gathering figures opposing President Yoon Seok-yeol, was evaluated by Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Min-seok as having "many voices of sympathy."
On the 6th, Ahn said on 'KBS 1 Radio Today,' "Surprisingly, there are many voices that sympathize with former leader Song's remarks. When I travel around the regions, I often hear expressions like 'When will President Yoon Seok-yeol be ousted?'"
However, there is analysis that it is uncertain whether the new party Song is pushing for will actually emerge. He said, "Former leader Song seems to strongly consider creating the 'Song Young-gil Party' if the current election system remains unchanged. But regarding how the election system might change, if it shifts to a parallel system, then Song's plan will likely be in vain," adding, "On the 8th, former leader Song is scheduled to be summoned by the prosecution, and the results of the investigation will also be a significant variable."
Regarding election system reform, the Democratic Party is debating whether to maintain the current mixed-member proportional representation system and create satellite parties or to switch to a parallel proportional representation system. This is controversial as it contradicts the pledge made by leader Lee Jae-myung during the presidential election to "maintain the mixed-member proportional representation system and prevent satellite parties."
Ahn said, "Under the current election system, that is, the semi-mixed-member proportional representation system, is there a way to completely prevent satellite parties? Even after discussions with election experts, there is no 100% way to block them," adding, "If the People Power Party creates satellite parties and the Democratic Party does not, resulting in defeat in the general election, then what use would a multi-party system or coalition politics be? Such thoughts make me skeptical."
He emphasized that winning the general election should take precedence over presidential pledges. Ahn said, "There is a debate between principle and reality in politics, and even within our party, there is a fierce discussion on whether to uphold principles or choose reality. We are in the midst of intense debates between principle and reality," adding, "I believe politics is the art of timing. The important question is whether now is the time to emphasize political reform or to judge the administration. That is a very important criterion."
