SK D&D has announced on the 5th that it has signed an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract for the Yakmok Eco Park fuel cell power plant.
SK D&D and SK Ecoplant have formed the SK consortium to build the Yakmok Eco Park, a fuel cell power plant with a capacity of 9MW on a 4,300㎡ (approximately 1,300 pyeong) site. The total construction cost is 59.2 billion KRW, of which SK D&D's share amounts to 48 billion KRW (81%).
Yakmok Eco Park is a fuel cell power plant developed through joint investment by SK D&D, Daeseon ENC, and financial investors via a Special Purpose Company (SPC), aiming for commercial operation in October 2024.
SK D&D is responsible for supplying the main equipment, design, permits, and overall project management, while SK Ecoplant handles completion and commissioning. The main equipment manufacturer, Bloom Energy from the United States, will manage O&M (Operations and Maintenance), and Yeongnam Energy Service will supply the fuel.
SK D&D currently operates fuel cell power plants totaling 40MW, including Cheongju Eco Park (20MW) and Eumseong Eco Park (20MW). Upon completion of Chilgok Eco Park (20MW), which has been under construction since August, and Yakmok Eco Park (9MW), the company will produce approximately 574GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply about 160,000 households.
Additionally, SK D&D has secured and is developing fuel cell power generation rights totaling approximately 400MW in locations including ▲Boeun, Chungbuk (20MW) ▲Paju (31MW) ▲Chungju (40MW) ▲Daesowon (40MW) ▲Asan (40MW).
Kim Haejung, Head of Energy Solutions at SK D&D, stated, "Through the Yakmok Eco Park EPC contract, city gas will be supplied to about 1,200 households in the Yakmok-myeon area, which currently lacks city gas supply. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the renewable energy sector to expand community-based fuel cell projects and contribute to the activation of the hydrogen economy."
