Introducing Various Policies Including Foreign University Students' Separate Waste Disposal Education Program
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held the presentation ceremony for the 'Net Zero Dream Dongdaemun-gu Idea Contest Dreamed by MZ Generation' on the 4th.
The contest invited current and returning university students in the region to propose climate crisis response policy ideas suitable for Dongdaemun-gu, divided into policy proposal and video production categories. From October 16 to November 16, a total of 14 teams submitted proposals, and through the first document screening, three teams from each category advanced to the finals.
The six finalist teams held their presentations on the 4th at the Dapsimni Film Media Art Center, and the event was broadcast live on YouTube.
The policy proposal teams presented on ▲Revitalization of traditional markets using unmanned PET bottle collection machines (Nadipe, University of Seoul), ▲Implementation of separate waste disposal education with foreign university students (Donggeuli, University of Seoul), and ▲Support policy for establishing zero-waste stores in university areas (MJECO, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies).
The video production teams submitted videos on ▲Easy-to-follow daily carbon neutrality methods (Kind Earth, Kyung Hee University), ▲Carbon reduction through MZ generation’s use of vintage stores (NaeTneun BinTji, Kyung Hee University), and ▲Carbon neutrality practices in university life (Environmental Ranger, University of Seoul).
Additionally, singer-songwriter ‘Hyeya’ performed a congratulatory stage, singing her original song ‘What Should I Do’ and AKMU’s ‘Fry Dream,’ receiving enthusiastic responses from the participants and brightening the event atmosphere.
The final rankings were determined by combining the scores from five on-site judges and real-time online voting. The policy proposal category awards were ▲Grand Prize: Donggeuli (University of Seoul), ▲Excellence Award: MJECO (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), ▲Encouragement Award: Nadipe (University of Seoul). The video production category awards were ▲Grand Prize: Environmental Ranger (University of Seoul), ▲Excellence Award: NaeTneun BinTji (Kyung Hee University), ▲Encouragement Award: Kind Earth (Kyung Hee University).
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Although we started promoting carbon neutrality policies later than Europe, seeing today’s presentations reassures me that our future generations are very interested in carbon neutrality. I thank all the teams who participated in the contest, and all proposed policies will be reviewed by the relevant departments and serve as a foundation for making ‘2050 Dongdaemun-gu Carbon Neutral Future City.’”
