SKB Launches 'Living English Free Talking'
Capable of Answering Various Questions and Topics
Experience English Kindergarten at Home... Service Advancement
SK Broadband is enhancing its kids' service 'B tv ZEM (Jam)' by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 6th, SK Broadband announced that it will introduce a new service called 'Living English Free Talking,' which enables customized free English conversation by integrating ChatGPT into B tv ZEM's 'Living English,' marking the first time this has been done on IPTV.
Living English is a program where children can improve their English skills by conversing in English with an AI character. Through collaboration with the edutech company 'Akipin,' ChatGPT has been integrated to allow the AI character to respond flexibly to questions that are out of context or cover various topics.
For example, if a child says in English, "I like movies," the AI responds with "What's your favorite movie?" Even if the child says something unrelated like "I'm hungry," the AI naturally continues the conversation by replying, "Did you have breakfast?"
An SK Broadband official explained, "We used a text-to-speech conversion method that refines ChatGPT's answers to children's questions and converts them into the character's voice," adding, "The service can also adequately respond to adults' queries, making it usable for the whole family, not just children."
Additionally, the service provides a learning status display on the screen, showing the number of words and sentences spoken by the child so that parents can visually check their child's English proficiency. If the child utters harmful language such as profanity or slang, it is not displayed on the screen, and the conversation is naturally redirected to reassure parents.
SK Broadband plans to further enhance the service by opening new levels and adding quizzes and alphabet games that can be played with ChatGPT, creating an experience akin to an English kindergarten at home.
Lee Kang-hee, head of segment marketing at SK Broadband, said, "We will continue to provide more meaningful B tv ZEM services with diverse and beneficial content applying AI."
