Gwangjin-gu Extends Bus Route 2222... Runs Along Jayang Riverside Road

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is extending the route of local bus number 2222 to address the long-standing requests of residents along Jayang Riverside Road.

The first bus will operate on the new route starting January 15.

The extended route will apply to buses heading toward Korea University. Starting from the Sinja Elementary School intersection, the bus will travel via ▲Jamsil Bridge North End intersection ▲Jayang Riverside Road before continuing on the existing route.

The area around Jayang Riverside Road has seen apartment developments since the 1990s, which increased residents' inconvenience with public transportation, leading to continuous complaints. In response, the district has made significant efforts to improve convenience and promote public transportation use to alleviate residents' difficulties and encourage private car users to switch to public transit.

However, attempts to establish a new village bus route failed due to no applicants in the public contest. Later, in April 2020, approval for a new village bus route was granted by Seoul City, but the COVID-19 pandemic worsened the operating conditions for transport businesses, causing a long-term suspension.

To expedite the project, the district devised a rational and effective plan to extend the existing bus route. After holding resident briefings and gathering opinions from residents and related organizations, and through continuous consultations with Seoul City, the plan finally came to fruition.

The extended route of bus number 2222 will stop at a total of 28 stops within Gwangjin-gu.

The newly added stops include six locations: ▲Jayang Miso Pharmacy, Jayang Alley Market (which will become the new starting stop for bus 2222) ▲in front of Kookmin Bank Jayang Branch ▲in front of Jayang Haneulchae Ber Apartment, and newly established stops along Jayang Riverside Road including ▲Jayang 2-dong Community Center ▲District-run Haengbok Maru Daycare Center ▲Jayang Hangang Library.
