Jeju Coast Guard Holds Appointment Ceremony for Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee

Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byeong-yong) announced on the 5th that it held the 'Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technical Committee Appointment Ceremony' the day before at Jeju Maritime Police Station to strengthen capabilities in maritime accident response, including search and rescue activities at sea.

The Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technical Committee operates under the Act on Search and Rescue on Water (abbreviated as the Water Rescue Act) and carries out missions such as prompt and effective search and rescue activities, establishing cooperative systems with related organizations, and supporting maritime disaster relief operations.

It consists of 20 members, including 10 ex officio members and 10 appointed members, who are experts from maritime disaster relief cooperative organizations and groups, including the Jeju Maritime Police Chief (chairperson).

At this appointment ceremony, 10 experts from various fields such as disaster, medical, hull, rescue (salvage), meteorology, fisheries, marine environment, and drones were selected as appointed members, awarded appointment letters, and discussed the operation direction and advisory methods of the technical committee for systematic response to maritime accidents, as well as future development plans.

A Jeju Maritime Police official said, "The appointment of the technical committee members has become an opportunity to further strengthen the public-private cooperation system, including professional advice related to maritime accidents and the establishment of a cooperative system among maritime disaster relief related organizations," adding, "We will further enhance our capabilities in responding to maritime accidents."
