30 Tons of Kimchi Made in November Shared with Over 3,500 Households in Need Across Communities... Neighborhood Social Welfare Councils and Saemaeul Women's Associations Roll Up Sleeves for Kimchi Sharing... Churches, Saemaeul Geumgo, and Corporations Join Kimchi Sharing Efforts

30 Tons of Sincere Kimjang Sharing Across Seongbuk-gu

In various locations throughout Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro), kimchi sharing events are being held to wish for a warm winter for marginalized neighbors. During the month of November, a total of 30 tons of kimchi was prepared for sharing, which is equivalent to about 13,000 heads of napa cabbage. The carefully made kimchi was delivered with love to approximately 3,500 vulnerable households in the community, including elderly living alone, single-parent families, and multicultural families.


Residents rolled up their sleeves to share kimchi through each neighborhood’s Community Security Council and Saemaeul Women's Association. On the 10th of last month, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Jeongneung 1-dong distributed 600kg of kimchi to 60 households in welfare blind spots. On the 14th, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Donam 2-dong shared 400kg of kimchi with 50 vulnerable households, and the Donam 1-dong Community Security Council, supported by Yeongam Church, distributed 890kg of kimchi to 178 households including elderly living alone, middle-aged single-person households, and families with disabilities. On the 15th, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Jeongneung 2-dong shared 300kg of kimchi with 60 elderly living alone and low-income neighbors.


On the 16th, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Jangwi 3-dong distributed 450kg of kimchi to 38 elderly living alone and low-income households, as well as 7 senior centers. On the same day, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Jeongneung 3-dong delivered 640kg of kimchi to 80 households including elderly living alone, people with disabilities, and single-person households. On the 20th, the Welfare Division of the Jeongneung 4-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee delivered 1,500kg of kimchi to 15 basic livelihood security recipients, and the Pretty Hands Volunteer Group in Seokgwan-dong delivered 500kg of kimchi to 50 households in welfare blind spots. On the 21st, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Bomun-dong shared 1,200kg of kimchi with 150 low-income elderly living alone, and the Jeongneung 1-dong Community Security Council delivered 460kg of kimchi to 46 households including elderly living alone and people with disabilities.


On the 22nd, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Wolgok 2-dong delivered 400kg of kimchi to 60 elderly living alone and low-income neighbors, and the Saemaeul Women's Association of Seongbuk-dong shared 800kg of kimchi with 80 households in welfare blind spots. On the 24th, the Samseon-dong Community Security Council delivered 1,700kg of kimchi to 170 low-income households, and on the 27th, the Saemaeul Women's Association of Samseon-dong delivered 500kg of kimchi to 50 vulnerable households.


Churches, Saemaeul Credit Cooperatives, and incorporated associations are joining in supporting the community kimchi sharing, wishing for a warm winter for our neighbors.
