The final event of the 2023 season of the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Champions Tour, the Maple Flower Golf Club Invitational, will be held in Japan.
On the 4th, KPGA announced, "The tournament will take place over two days starting from the 6th at Maple Flower Golf Club (par 72, 6,752 yards) in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan." Since the Champions Tour was established in 1997, this is only the second time the event is held abroad, the first being the Mercedes-Benz Star Automobile & Taekwang Industrial Group Invitational held in Vietnam in 2018.
The tournament will be conducted as a 2-round, 36-hole stroke play. The total prize money is 150 million KRW, with the winner's prize being 21 million KRW. A total of 65 players will participate, including 39 players ranked within the top 60 in the Champions Tour points this season, 11 invited Japanese players, and 15 recommended players. If Mo Jung-kyung, who has won three times this year, wins, he will achieve four Champions Tour wins in a season for the first time in nine years since Choi Kwang-soo in 2014. Daisuke Maruyama, who has accumulated three wins in Japan, and Yoshinobu Tsukada, who has one win, will also participate.
Veterans such as Kim Jong-deok, Seok Jong-yul, and Jang Ik-je are also contenders for the title. The competitive Maple Flower Golf Club opened in 1992. It is a prestigious golf course, ranking within the top 70 among over 2,200 golf courses in Japan. The course features a Scottish-style outcourse and a Japanese traditional garden-style incourse.
