The ‘Love Health Stairs’ is a social contribution facility established in July 2015 with the support of Shinsegae Eye Clinic. It features user detection sensors installed on the stairs at Exit 4 of Sangmu Station, producing musical notes of different pitches to add fun to the use, and accumulates 10 won per citizen using the stairs.

Especially installed at Sangmu Station, which has a high foot traffic, it helps tired citizens maintain their health through daily stair use and contributes to spreading a culture of everyday donations through corporate sponsorship and citizen participation.

So far, it is estimated that over 2.2 million citizens have used the health stairs, accumulating about 45 million won in donations and over 10 million won in eye health checkup vouchers.

This year, 5 million won in donations will be delivered to Segwang School, Gwangju Migrant Women Support Center, Maranatha Specialized Nursing Facility, and others.

Park Young-geol, honorary director of Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic, said, “In these difficult times when wars are breaking out around the world and prices continue to rise, threatening the economy of ordinary people, I always think about what social responsibility means as a doctor. We will continue to promote ESG by spreading social value through the spirit of loving neighbors and supporting vulnerable groups.”

Meanwhile, Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic annually supports donations to the ‘Love Health Stairs’ fund, the Korean Red Cross, Gwangsan District Table Tennis Association, and the Gwangju Fathers’ Choir. Next year, it plans to donate about 25 million won to Gwangju FC.

Additionally, it has signed agreements with the Urban Railroad Corporation, Administrative Welfare Center, Office of Education, Military Manpower Administration, and others to provide free vision surgeries and cataract surgeries for vulnerable groups, actively supporting coexistence in the local community.
