Man in his 50s arrested and charged for threatening part-time worker with a weapon to steal cigarettes

A man in his 50s who threatened a convenience store part-time worker with a weapon and stole cigarettes has been brought to trial.

The Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Jae-hyeok) announced on the 1st that Mr. A, in his 50s, was arrested and indicted on charges of special robbery.

According to the prosecution, on the early morning of the 21st of last month, Mr. A threatened a part-time worker in their 20s at a convenience store in Nowon-gu, Seoul, by holding a kitchen knife to the worker's abdomen and demanding, "Give me all the money you have."

Mr. A initially intended to steal cash, but after the part-time worker wrestled him and took away the weapon, then ran outside the store, he stole six packs of cigarettes worth approximately 27,000 won. Mr. A was caught in the act by police who responded to the report.

Mr. A, a recipient of basic livelihood security benefits, stated during the police investigation that he committed the crime due to financial hardship.
